The Difficulty Of Female Hair Thinning

First off, women find that alopecia is often a cause of female hair loss. And our research shows that female pattern hair loss is usually a more devastating event for women than form men when they begin to lose their hair. Our society places much more of an emphasis on womens’ hair what with the different hair styles and colors to choose from and youth being associated with healthy hair so losing our hair can mean feeling like we’ve lost our femininity.

Major Causesfemale hair thinning

One of the major causes of loss of scalp hair is androgenetic alopecia. Women did not realize until the last few years that this was not just a man’s problem. It’s true we do not often develop the same baldness patterns that men develop so the appearance is not the same which may be the reason this was considered only a man’s hair loss problem for many years.

When women lose their hair due to alopecia, there is more of a thinning effect over the whole scalp area with a more profuse thinning at the back. Female hair thinning cased by alopecia can also occur more towards the front but we as women do not tend to get a receding hairline. This can occur however, when the thinning gets really intense in the front rather than the back of the scalp.

Female Hair Thinning – What Causes Androgenetic Alopecia?

We as women can inherit the sensitivity to male hormones that attack the hair follicles the same as men can. The good news is there are several treatments that may stop the hormones from doing this and the hair follicles can remain healthy.

Trichotillomania Completely Treatable

Another reason for female hair thinning or hair loss can be trichotillomania. This is compulsive hair pulling. This is due to a compulsion that cannot be controlled without seeking help. The loss of hair will be more in one area since those who suffer from this malady tend to pull more in certain areas. When the psychological reasons for this problem are discovered, this can be eliminated.

Female Hair Loss TreatmentAlopecia Women

female hair loss treatment - alopecia womenA form of female hair thinning is caused by Alopecia areata. This is possibly due to an autoimmune disorder. The female hair thinning is patchy and may not be extensive hair loss. However, sometimes it can be a large loss in some areas while leaving other areas with the hair intact. The best way to find out if this is the problem is to seek a medical diagnosis.

This condition is considered to be an autoimmune disorder. The body basically attacks its own hair follicles and the hair stops growing. Other factors such as emotional stress can cause this problem as well. Most of the time when the hair loss begins with a number of small patches, the hair will grow back within a few months up to a year.

In other cases the cause is not due to alopecia. Women should check with their doctor before trying any treatments. Often the loss can be caused by illness or pregnancy and this will cause the hair to thin.
